Free therapy is not always bad therapy but it isn't easy to find. Many places of worship have leaders who are also trained in family therapy. Good friends with calm demeanors can also be good listeners. Lower cost therapy can often be found in mental health training institutes (see yellow pages under mental health' or psychology') and hospital out-patient mental health clinics. Treatment quality varies. Ask around. You may know people who have found this kind of care. If they recommend someone you can't afford, you can ask the therapist about a sliding scale (adjusting the fee depending on your income). However, consider it a good investment to find a gifted counselor who will work with you on a short-term basis. |
